5 BEING THE BEST

I am a long time Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks fan, going back to 1977, when I first saw them. And have seen them and Stevie at least 75 times over the years.

Seeing Stevie perform an entire concert with an orchestra behind her was wonderful. As it was the first concert of this tour, and being filmed for a DVD, she seemed very happy and thrilled with the event. The show was almost the same as last years US tour. As has already been said, they had to do the first two songs over at the end of the show due to technical problems. And of course everyone was thrilled. The only thing wrong with the evening was that the sound mixer who was doing the hall had her band amped up as high as usual, but the orchestra was not up high enough in the mix. Only on the ballads did you even hear the orchestra. I wanted to hear the string arrangements behind songs like "Stand Back", "Rhiannon" and "Edge Of Seventeen", but you couldn't even make out if they were even playing. I'm sure when the DVD comes out, they will fix the mix in the studio. But Stevie was great, as always. Her voice was very strong throughout the show.

I saw the Sydney show also and she was even better, more relaxed, having done three shows between.

Cheers from down under!

Stevie was in top form at Melbourne. She was bubbly and enthusiastic, full of energy and verve. Her voice was pitch perfect with a lovely vibrato edge to it. Her band was very "tight" adding a sharp focus and dynamic sheen to Stevie's superlative performance. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra blendly beautifully with her songs. There were no dull moments and no excessivly prolonged musical interludes and/or solos during the show. The momentum was maintained from the first note to the last.

Stevie made a few brisk costume changes, looking elegant and sophisticated during the evening. The lighting and background visuals complimented the emotional mood of each song. During "Landslide" there was a montage of Stevie throughout the years and it was touching to see one photo of Stevie and Christine McVie together.

Stevie's interaction with her fans was delightful as she chatted to the audience, smiled, shook hands and at the end of the concert wondered if we wouldn't mind hearing "Outside The Rain" and "Dreams" again? A most opportune mishap with the recording equipment was welcomed with a roar of approval! I do hope we see a prompt release of this show on DVD.

Here's hoping that Stevie tours for many years to come. We are indeed privileged to be fans of such a dynamic artist and beautiful human being.
