5 BEING THE BEST

Rated "5" by Brittany aka "LitaRhiannon"

Just got back from Ft. Lauderdale! We drove over Tuesday afternoon to have enough time to see the Hard Rock Hotel and all the memorobilia. Interesting tidbit: While I was in the gift shop my boyfriend was gawking over a giant Aerosmith display. I came out and he was standing next to Jimmy Paxton, her drummer. I flipped out. Apparently my boyfriend told Jimmy he had great hair. He just about flipped out when I told him who he was. It was neat to see him just wandering around the hotel looking at all the albums on the wall.

The set list:

Bootylicious/Dreams remix
Enchanted
Stop Draggin My Heart Around
Outside the Rain
Dreams
Piano Intro
Rhiannon
Sorcerer
Stand Back
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
Band intros
Fall From Grace
Drum Solo

Encore
Rock and Roll
Beauty and the Beast

The show started at 8:17 with Enchanted. The band came out, started playing and there was no Stevie. Usually she comes running out but tonight her monitors weren't working. She came out about 30 seconds late and did Enchanted as usual with a big apology at the end. She said she was waiting to come out and realized her monitor wasn't on. So she was "screaming, cursing, and praying" that it would start and eventually decided to go on without it. She apologized telling us that tonight she was going to do it without her monitors. She said that one day she'd come back and play again with working equipment as well. (Holding you to that Stevie!) But not to worry she did wonderful without it!

Stop Dragging My Heart Around: After seeing her sing this with Tom Petty last year, hearing it with Waddy just isn't the same. Still a great song.

Outside the Rain/Dreams: Very powerful as usual. Big crowd hit. Nothing really different about it.

Rhiannon: I love how no one ever recognizes this song until she says the word Rhiannon. She did an amazing job of singing, the end brought tears to my eyes. The background were the same images from 2005. They all have a striking resemblence to Stevie if you look carefully. At the end of Rhiannon she mentioned that in the 70's she used to get up on stage and it was just the crowd, and her singing, and she loved it and it was great and that was what tonight was like without her monitors.

Sorcerer: This is one of my boyfriend's current favorites. He loved it. Most of the crowd didn't recognize it. They had a new image in the background of a Rhiannonish image with a skeleton/grim reaper with her. Weird choice.

Stand Back: 12 spins! Extremely energetic. Black and white shawl. You could clearly see how much fun she and the band were having up there. Video screen had images of her spinning.

Landslide: The montage of Stevie clips was there like in 2005 but it has been changed. More has been added to it. It no longer starts over part of the way through. I love the background vocals during the chorus. Very touching. At one point she turned around and was watching herself on the video screen. Another cry moment for me and everyone there I think. She repeated "the landslide will bring it down" several extra times at the end.

Gold Dust Woman: The lighting for Gold Dust Woman is purple why? It turns to gold partially through the song. Stevie had her gold shawl. Another really powerful song. A fight broke out behind me which was distracting but aside from that it was great. She did the "baby baby baby baby you can't save me now" at the end.

Band intros:

Daryll Smith
Al Ortiz
Jimmy Paxton
Taku
Brett Tuggle
Lori Nicks
Jane Anderson
Sharon Celani
Carlos Rios
Waddy Watchel

Lori was out for every song but Landslide. When introducing the first band members, she stated where they were from. When she got to Jimmy she realized she didn't know where he was from and stopped to ask. He's from New Jersey. Taku was introduced as her favorite percussionist. Note to Lindsey: if you make him your favorite percussionist, you cannot offend Mick. Brett was introduced as one of her favorite band members ever. Lori, Jana, and Sharon were introduced as the three birds of Rhiannon, and Carlos was the 4th bird, playing bass and love. How cute!

Fall From Grace: Wow does she still rock this song! Most people didn't know it but they didn't care!

Drum solo: Dualing drummers between Taku and Jimmy Paxton. I love it!

Edge of 17: Started out with images of Waddy on the screen playing guitar. Once Stevie came out it switched to images of a dove, and then mixed in an image of Stevie spinning. Stevie had the white skirt on for this song only. No one rushed the stage. Security was holding everyone back. A few people ran up and threw gifts on stage. Stevie ran over and picked the stuff up and reached for their hands only. I don't know if she has stopped walking to the edge or if the venue wouldn't let her. Stevie hugged all the back up singers afterwards. Song was shorter than usual.

Rock & Roll: She came out in pants and the top hat. Really rocked the song. Crowd loved it! Another clear example of how you could see her having fun on stage.

Beauty & the Beast: My favorite! I love the movie on the screen in the background. She came out in the black cape. Nailed every note perfectly. Usually a lot of people leave during the encore but I didn't see anyone move during this song. Even my boyfriend who runs to skip this song when it comes on liked it.

At the end, she thanked everyone for putting up with the technical problems, which weren't even that noticable except her late entrance in Enchanted.

I loved it. I don't care if it's the same setlist I've seen several times before. It's still amazing every time! Her energy is real. She loves being on stage and you can really see it in her performance
