5 BEING THE BEST

Rated "5" by Michele Jackson aka "mjackson866"

Well, I saw American Idol Wednesday night -- at least an american idol: Stevie in Chula Vista, California.

After Stand Back she said that we were here tonight because of Crystal Visions, a retrospective on her entire solo career and she says who knew that an album she, Sharon, Lori, and Waddy did in 1981 would be responsible their being here today in 2007. She said everyone there was her own personal crystal vision. Then, "Let's rock."

For IAF, she says that someone once said to her that "if anyone falls in love, it should be us and I would like to dedicate the song to that person."

For Sorcerer, she says that coming to Los Angeles with Lindsey was both scary and fantastic, because they didn't know if they were going to make it or not, didn't know whether their career would go anywhere. So, they had extremely high days and extremely low days and the song is about those extreme highs and extreme lows.

For INTK she says that it was written by her dear friend Tom Petty who is not here tonight but was here the night before last [so you say! I never saw him]. She says that tonight, an original Heartbreaker, Ron Blair, is there. So she sings INTL for Ron and his band.

For Fall From Grace she says that she'd like to think that there's a lot of love behind those lines, but it is certainly the meanest song she's ever written, "bar none."

During the band introductions, she mentions that she has new band members, but she will start with an old one, Al Ortiz. She laughs and says, "not that you're old." In fact she says that Al, an old friend from Phoenix is "pretty damn young."

She tells Ricky that she hasn't heard a Hammond B organ sound that way in years, not since Christine Mcvie. She says that Ricky makes her feel like she's back in the old days again. I guess that we would all like to feel that way.

When she turns to the back up singers, Stevie exclaims that all the girls are old. Then, she laughs and says she's just joking. It's just so much fun to stand up there and do nothing but talk. She says that Lori took a 16 year vacation and now she's back. She says that Sharon is cranky. She's the teacher that makes sure they learn all of their parts. She and Lori would say, "all right. Let's go party!" But Sharon would make them stay and rehearse for another hour.

She turns to Waddy and says that he is certainly not new. She's known him since 1971 and he was with the "original" Buckingham Nicks. "Now, that's old." I wonder what she means by "original." Original means first, so is she saying that there's a second Buckingham Nicks out there or will be a reincarnation of BN soon? Yeah, I guess in my dreams.

Anyway, she says that Waddy was one of hers and Lindsey's first friends when they came to Los Angeles and they used to hang out at the Roxy and the Troubadour.

I notice that twice during EO17, once before Stevie's vocals start and once in the middle of the song, Waddy comes and stands in front of her and counts off 1-2-3-4 right in front of her face. This is sort of odd to me. I'm sure she could figure out when to start singing without him doing that. Actually, it's more important to do a count off so that all the musicians start at once, than to do it for the lead singer.

I have joked that one reason Stevie wears gloves is so that she won't pick up germs during the Edge walk, but tonight I see that it wasn't that much of a joke at all. Most of the time, she has on gloves through the whole song anyway. Tonight, she didn't have on gloves for the first part of the walk and had to go to the drum kit and put them on, before she started shaking hands. It was rather amusing. She reminded me of a doctor, scrubbing for surgery.

I don't blame her. Some people would like to teach the world to sing. I would like to teach the world to Purell. But tonight was the first time that I saw the gloves used so obviously as a form of protection during the crowd encounter.

At the end of the show she thanks us for coming and notes that our presence is very precious to her. She says that we should go to live concerts and to cafes (??). She says there's a revolution out there and we have to grab onto it, because if we don't, the music industry will just die.

The more she says this, the more worried I become. These acts have to double bill just to fill a small venue now and if Fleetwood Mac puts off its "reunion" tour any further than 2008, they might not be able to do it at all.

Rated "5" by Stephanie

Oh my god. It was my first Stevie concert and ive been a fan for a while now. She looked beautiful, a lot of people there, really great. I love how she sang Rock and Roll and I Need To Know.

A lot of people were singing along -- as was I. It was funny that me and my boyfriend were the only teenagers -- I think tears fell from my eyes. She's more beautiful in person and has such a great voice.

I still can't believe I went to see my idol. I have a t-shirt and poster to prove I went. It was the happiest 1/5 hours of my life.

Her ending was great -- Beauty and The Beast. I almost cried - and then she sang Landslide. She opened with Bootylicious. When the people heard this song, they started roaring with applause and whistling.

If she comes again next year, I am so gonna go though I'm waiting to see if FM does tour-- let's just hope they do and that Christine joins.
