5 BEING THE BEST
Rated "5" by Nightbird53"
All I can say is Stevie was fantastic. She look great and very gracious. Aside from not delivering the goods she mentioned on the radio I'm happy I came. I would like to comment on those who feel the need to pick on her weight (being out of shape).
1. The woman is 57. She is long past the pin up girl of the 70/80's. We all lived through the Street Angel years and Stevie is nowhere near that size. If Stevie is comfortable where she is then we need to let her be. It's about the music not her dress size!
2. As we age our voices lower and those high notes get harder and harder to reach. Stevie has done alot of damage to her voice through improper singing technique and all the touring of the 70/80's and other things. In my opion she hasn't sounded better. Beauty And The Beast was a prime example! Want a reality check go listen to some of her concerts from the 80's.
Just wanted to get that out.

I saw Stevie in Vegas last night with my sister, my mom and my husband.
We had really crappy tickets, but I worked up the courage to try to make it to the floor. Luckely I was able to snag front row tickets for my and my "crew". I rushed the stage to get a prime spot before the show even started and the security didn't care! Isn't that weird. Anyway, when Stevie finally came on she rocked!! I admitt that the unicorns were cheesy and the greek columns were a bit much, but over all it was an out standing show. The biggest highlight was the orchestra that came out for BATB.

I attended the final Vegas show, 5/14. I found it to be amazing...absolutely amazing. I agree with those of you who said that it wasn't necessarily a "vegas show." That said, it seemed like true Stevie to me. Why was it amazing? Why true Stevie? For a few reasons:
First, she sounded impeccable. There was not one note out of place. She changed things up a bit as far as improvising on songs, but kept them close enough that the fans could still get into it, singing along. Watching her sing live, watching her get into her lyrics, made the meaning behind all of the songs that much more significant and powerful. She completely ROCKED out on some of the songs (Fall From Grace, Edge of Seventeen) and tore your heart out on others (Beauty and the Beast).
Second, she seemed absolutely thrilled to be there. When I saw FM on tour this past summer, the show was great. The band seemed to have fun. But, they didn't seem to truly love what they were doing. On Saturday, Stevie seemed to love everything about that night. Her love for her craft, her band, and her fans truly seemed to show through. She was gracious, and the graciousness was geniune. She was full of gorgeous, grateful smiles.
So, while I certainly agree with most of you that the show wasn't overly "showy," and wasn't laden with costumes and lights, for me it was a fantastic show that truly demonstrated Stevie's talent and love for her craft. I flew across the country to attend even though she'll be about 30 minutes away in just a few weeks. And..I'm so happy I did!

The show was phenomenal! Loved it, had great seats, they were comp'd last minute (oh yes) and Stevie was on point.
The one thing I have to say I've not read anyone else report was that she DID wear the boots for one song. I was up close (and giddy) when I saw them. It was for "I Need To Know." She may well have kept them on for "Beauty & the Beast" but with her dress we were none the wiser-- and given that power of that song, that night, who cared?

May 14th Row AA Orch3: We were sweatin' like Nixon trying to get these seats. We had none for the 13th & 14th. Getting row 2 for Tiffany & row 3 for myself 5/13 at about 4:30p.m and 5p.m was anxiety enough. On the 14th, at about 5 something, the ticket personnel was like "we only have about 20 seats left in the house, we advise you buy something." Tiffany ended up buying a Orch 6 (technically the worst section you could have, although all seats were indeed great so no complaining) and like 30 min later they call us over, cause I didn't have a ticket yet, and they said they had 2 front row seats but they were available, cause they were an "obstructed" view. Yea, ok. A speaker was about eye level. Woopty-do. We grabbed them. Finally Tiff & I were sitting together, and luckily she was able to sell the other ticket so she didn't eat $175! We were so excited, now we could begin to enjoy the night, cause waiting w/out tickets you can imagine how bitchy and stressed we were. Showtime. Same old night, but with Mick Fleetwood 7 rows behind us (how we scored better seats than Mick is anyones guess) you could tell that Stevie was really showing off! She was on FIRE Saturday giving Vegas her all. All selections stand out, but I'd have to say Fall From Grace was a hit, as was Outside the Rain ("Mick said Stevie this is only one more link in the chain.....".) Ending the evening w/ B&TB for the last time was very emotional, but calling out to Mick at the song crescendo...WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(One did have to wonder just how weird this must be for Stevie, Mick, his wife, and the daughters, although I don't think they get that stuff yet. Just an afterthought.)
After this show, we met a lot of the band. Carlos, Machito (we had our pic WITH him, as opposed to telling him to look thru a hole and shoot, which he still found funny) Jana, and then Sharon. Sharon was actually first out. We had also gotten her a gift, and while I was waiting to get a ticket, Tiff spotted her and gave it to her. Sharon tells Tiffany that Stevie loved the bag, and wouldn't put it down. Perhaps she was humoring us, but one can hope that she did indeed appreciate a fan gift. Since she hadn't seen me earlier, I reminded her the gift Tiff gave her was from the both of us. Tiffany came over, and Sharon was very appreciative, saying it wasn't necessary and she found it odd that people appreciate her too. We tried to sum up how dear she was to us as well as Stevie w/out sounding like morons, and she just beamed. Sharon chatting w/ us drew a crowd, and so she was stopped by all. Each time she'd end one conversation, she'd come right back to us, which just goes to show what a sweet lady she is. At one point, I went to Carlos, and was like, I think Sharon is looking for an "out." He says ok, and takes my arm, we go over to Sharon, and Carlos says "go give her a hard time." Then Carlos starts in "Hey Sharon, come here, come here Sharon, can I have your autograph." Hilarious. It was a perfect ending. Stevie has the best crew ever. The best fans. The best everything!
Things about the show that have received the most bitching. Well, ok, so it wasn't all she built it up as with Jim Ladd. Yea, so we had hoped for some more, but I think the show was pure Stevie. In fact a bit more effort like this Vegas stint in a regular tour would be a bonus. I am not sure that I would have wanted to see the Stand Back video in unison, verbatim as she sung the song currently. Yea, the reminder of Stand Back in it's heyday would have been cool, but no big whoop. I did find the unicorns a tad tacky for Rhiannon, but when Rhiannon was at it's peak, every one of us girls had stuffed unicorns in our room, and sported feathered hair. For crap sake it was the 80's!
The whole B&TB debate, well, since I never got to see it done w/ a full orchestra, I'd say this is the next best thing. I found it simply breathtaking. Lastly, no boots. That was a bummer, but it did enable Stevie to bounce all over the place, and the new clothes were gorgeous. Most important was how radiant Stevie looked. This trip as a whole is by far one of the best experiences in my life. Great music, great Vegas dining. Met great other fans, lots of the band, etc. I could want for nothing more.

First I want to start off by saying that I think there is a danger in becoming TOO obsessed with Stevie Nicks. I'm not talking about the people who fly 18 hours to see her, or the people (and I say people, not women, because I saw a man) who dress up like her. I'm not talking about the people who own every album, know every word to every song, and know what her every move is, was, or will be. I love all of you and I think it is awesome! I'm talking about the folks who get so obsessed with her or the shows that they lose track of what it is all about.
I have read reviews with people calling her overweight, saying the videos were too weird, not weird enough, too long, too short, the guitar intros too dull, too loud, her shawls too bright, too black, too old, too fringy, not fringy enough...etc. GET OVER IT!! This is a 57 year old woman who has more charisma and talent in her pinky than 99% of us have combined! (I'm that 1% of course....lol just kidding.) Seriously though, when you're nitpicking the hell out of the show and saying what Stevie should do, what Stevie shouldn't do then you're missing the point in my opinion. Sure we all have our wishes...I wish she had done Talk to Me and Rooms on Fire and I Can't Wait. I totally respect everyone's opinions when it comes to their reviews...I seriously do. I'm not picking on anyone...but when you say that these little things ruined your show then you're not remembering what you love about this woman in the first place. If you want perfection sit home and listen to your cd's. Thats why they were created...to give you perfect recording with perfect pitch and perfect notes. The fun for me at concerts is seeing a glitch here and there...or even hearing an off note. It makes it interesting, makes it unique...one of a kind. With that said I will talk about Saturday's show.
I don't want to run through a play by play because not much of it differs from other facts. I'll just say the things that haven't been said.
I would say that there were more hardcore Stevie fans than I would have imagined. Once again I will reiterate that I think it should be illegal to drink alcohol in a concert. A man behind me became belligerant and loud and insisted on telling everyone about how he wanted to "F*** Stevie silly" in her hey day. Luckily, enough people complained to have him kicked out by the second song. Thankfully or else I may have ended up in a Vegas jail for the night. lol. Anyway...Stevie's performance on this night doesn't sound much different than what a lot of people said regarding her energy and personality. Sadly words just can't define it. The woman was OFF THE HOOK. I have never seen her like this in my life. She has never been more in her element. I went with two friends and we three agreed that this was the closest we would ever come to seeing Stevie Nicks in the late 70's. I only have videos and imagination as to what it was like to see her in the 70's. It came to life Saturday night. Obviously the high notes were absent but her strength and desire to entertain was the strongest I think it has been since the 80's. This was certainly not the same Stevie I saw twice on the SYW tour, the Stevie I saw on the Trouble tour, or the Stevie I saw at House of Blues 5 years ago. (Ironically I think it was the same drunk man at all those shows though...lol.) She either had 8 shots of espresso before going on stage our she's truly in one of the happiest places in her life. I saw Celine there and as great of a performer as she is her thanks and gratitude seemed a little rehearsed. Not Stevie's. Genuine all the way.
She dedicated "Landslide" to the staff of Caesar's palace and to the last audience of this Vegas experience. (I can officially say Stevie Nicks dedicated Landslide to me.) She mentioned that she came to see Celine and Elton awhile back to get an idea of the venue and what she wanted to do. She said in the interim between visiting and putting on the show that the staff was unbelievable in making her wishes come true.
She put more power into "Fall From Grace" than I expected. I got the impression that she felt as if it should have been a bigger hit (and it should have) and the audience erupted in applause when she finished "just to watch-you-walk-out-that-door."
I didn't mind any of the videos at all. I figure if you're watching the videos enough to be distracted by them then you're missing the point of who you were there to watch. Stevie didn't take the mic off the stand but I thought she utilized the stage to the best of her ability. Soundwise it just wasn't set up for her to travel around much. Another thing she did was pay tribute to Lori by pointing out her child in the audience and saying "I want you to watch your mother tonight and see what she gave up to have you."
The thing that shocked me the most, because I didn't read it in any reviews, was when everyone rushed the stage during "How Still My Love." My friends and I looked around and decided to be followers. We ended up in about the 4th row. Everyone was cool with it though. By this time everyone was under her spell and mesmerized by anything she would do. Not only did she own the stage this night but the audience as well. She could have sang "London Bridge" and the place would have gone nuts. I was so glad to have been next to the stage during "EOF17." She ad libbed some lines to it like at the end of "mothing else mattered" she sang, "Nothing else mattered.....(pause)...here." She lived up to her image when she walked the walk of fans...gifts, flowers, paintings, dolls...everything was handed to her with love and affection.
Now comes certainly the most talked about moment. "Beauty and the Beast." I thought the video showing behing her was TERRIFIC!! Outstanding in fact. It was so haunting and added such a touch of depth to the song. I know Michelle said she didn't like it and even said the song belonged as a skit on SNL...I love ya Michelle but you must be watching a different SNL because this song performance was anything but funny. When you can quiet an entire theater of drunk, rowdy, Vegas going folks for the entire length of your song you know you have power!! I thought her "getup" was awesome, thought her hair was sexy, and the over all performance gave me chills that have left my arm hairs STILL standing!! lol. She poured her entire heart into this number. Anyone who paid enough attention to the screen during this song, I hope you got the chance to look over and see Lori belting out her part on this song. At one point she was leaning so far back that I whought she was going to lay down on the floor. She got so into this song! It was by far the best closing I have ever seen at a concert. When Stevie finished she even put her hands up to her face and buried it in them because she was overwhelmed by the response from the crowd. It was so touching. She removed her hands and had red eyes. She was moved. To see the whole thing that close was out of this world.
All in all I obviously enjoyed myself to the extreme. A lot of people keep calling this a Vegas show and I think there is a difference between people that perform IN Vegas versus those performing FOR Vegas. If this was a permanent show I think they would definitely consider making it a little more over the top. I think for four nights though it was exactly what it needed to be.

This was my 8th time seeing Stevie (incl. gigs w/ FM) and it was by far the BEST I've ever seen her - absolutely the top of her game. Energetic, in great voice, playful, and certainly more animated than she was on the SYW tour. I am still beaming about that show.
High point was definitely Beauty & the Beast - left tears in my eyes.
And it wasn't just me...my other half has teased me about my Stevie fan-aticism for 4 yrs. When the show was done, he looked at me and said "now I totally get it!". He listened to Timespace on my IPOD the whole flight home...
