5 BEING THE BEST

Stevie was wonderful...
I have been a fan of hers for more years that I want to say....but have never gotten the opportunity to see her up close...until NOW!
My seats were in the second level, not bad ones mind you, but not up close either. When Vanessa completed her set I decided to find a seat up close and take my chances. I made it to about the 7th row and stayed there for 3/4 of the show. I then noticed people going to the stage so I decided to join them.
I actually was third from the stage and got to shake and talk to Ms. Nicks! A dream come true for me.
Stevie sounded better than ever! My favorite song had to be Has Anyone.....it was beautiful! She looked beautiful as usual and put on a very delightful show.
God I love her!

I saw 3 Stevie/Don shows and this was my first Vanessa Carlton Stevie show and this is what I thought.
Vanessa was pretty good. She talked A LOT!!!! She cracked some jokes and told some stories prior to all of her songs. I think she did a good job and I think most people enjoyed her.
Stevie - this show surprised me. The set list is all over the place. I was so ready for Outside the Rain, and she started with Enchanted. What even surprised me more was the 2nd song, Stop Draggin My Heart Around, which I may add Waddy did an excellent job. Later in the show, did anyone else notice that she screwed up Stand Back? She repeated the same line twice... But it still rocked. She plugged the one which she also plugged on her website. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You was excellent, lots of emotion. Cirlce Dance - in the setlist with Don, I thought was great. In the setlist without Don, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Fall From Grace - absolutely rocked the place, she was really into that song. The LZ encore - all I can say is after watching and listening to that, I don't think there is one song in this world that she could not perform. What an incredible version. And lastly Beauty and the Beast, a sad but nice way to go. She was on the money last night.
One thing I didn't care for was the Borgata security staff. It amazed me that these THUGS talked to people the way they did. The Edge of 17 cut off was the 3rd row. I was in the 3rd row. I got up there. However, a woman in the 4th row asked if she could stand off to the side, and the THUG cursed at her. She would not have been blocking anyones view as the floor cut off at section 500. What a shame. $125 a ticket and not only could she not stand off to the side, but the THUG used an explative.
All in all a great show, and a great/small venue. IF you are going to the 2nd show, beware of the THUG security.

First of all, I have newfound respect for this woman... She's absolutely incredible. I know I probably say that in every review or something, but I have new reasons. You can always find something new to love about Stevie Nicks.
For starters, Vanessa Carlton opened. It was actually a bit of a surprise to me. I knew she was opening for her, but I couldn't find her name anywhere: ticketmaster, the ticket, signs, ads... nothin. So I thought maybe this was gunna be just Stevie. At around 8:15, Vanessa came out and did a pretty good job. She said that Stevie's fans are "freakin' awesome" and she's loved touring with her. It was hilarious... she was commenting on how most of "us" (the crowd) were meeting her for the first time. (She came out to a few applause and announced, "I'm Stevie Nicks" and then chuckled into the first song.) The comment was in reference to her playing new songs, but as she said, "they're all new to most of you!" It was kinda cute and pretty true. I knew "White Houses"... and then she started playing "Thousand Miles"... stopped, turned to the crowd and said... "yeah, I'm that girl." lol, it was a riot. The place gave her a big round of applause for that, and when she left. She did a great job, but as my mom said, before long she's gunna develop carpul tunnel (sp?) if she keeps banging the hell outta the keys.
Next... what everyone is probably waiting for... haha. Bootylicious... Dreams remix... lights are out, people are up. Then the bangin' drums of "Enchanted" start! I'm thinkin'... woah, right off the bat, things are different. She did a great job, seemed to love it. Then Stop Draggin'... a fantastic version... I love the "yeah, yeah"'s she adds... Waddy was top notch as always. haha. THEN we got into Outside the Rain and Dreams. I thought the crazed mumbling "whole wide world, ever replace me, etc" was better in Pittsburgh, but it's a great moment nevertheless. I REALLY love the fade into Dreams... that line "Love is a word and some entertain it... if you find it.... you have won the game." Gives me the chills everytime.
Stevie goes away and the long piano intro to Rhiannon begins. I thoroughly enjoy this, also. It just adds so much class to the whole show... People begin to sit down, which... is okay with me, because I know their asses are about to be outta those seats as soon as she returns. She does. They are. Stevie gives it hell, especially the "I don't think you do!" Like... none other. Never heard it that intense before. During SYW it was a nice touch, but now you FEEL it. Sorcerer followed... You can tell not everybody knows it, but once the song gets rolling those who do are loving it, and those who sat down initially got back up (mostly). Kinda cool, I thought. I real sign that she's still got what it takes to keep an audience interested.
This was followed by Gold Dust Woman. Not a whole lot to say here. It was well done, but nothing spectacular. I was one who enjoyed Don's participation on this one, so I might not be the GDW expert that some are... hehe. Then Stand Back. One of my absolute favorites live with Fleetwood Mac. Somewhat lacking emotion tonight, unfortunately. The crowd really got into it, though. It's just such an energy song, it's hard not to.
Okay, my memory is KIIIND of messing with me at the moment. I'm gunna go with what I can remember, but I know the order listed on this website was changed yet again. She left after Stand Back, and returned and told us she's going to do something she doesn't normally ever do. I'm on pins and needles. She says... I'm going to read something for you. She read about www.one.org, asking each of us, if we felt so moved, to go and learn more about this incredibly important and worthwhile cause. I can't remember what she read, but you've seen the commercials I'm sure. My respect for her absolutely went through the roof. I'm reading "Bono in conversation with Michka Assayas" and I'm just thrilled to hear that she's invovled and fully supporting this cause. She then dedicated the follow song to those suffering in Africa: Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You. Very poignant. Great performance, as always. Ends with "Legend" rather than "priest of nothing." haha, I found it interesting.
She then introduced "Circle Dance." I love this song and so did my mom. (Kate!! You think you know a person! Geez.... heheh ) She did a fantastic job on it and I wouldn't complain if she kept this one around for years. Great choice for a cover, Miss Nicks.
Aaaanyways, again, hazy memory, but I do believe Fall From Grace followed. A good performance. No Blockbuster awards, but they can't all be gems, right? OH! Before FFG, she introduced her band. Blah blah, same old stuff. But before Carlos... she was kinda playful. She was like, "and a man... who was with me when my life wasn't going so well... you all remember that time, I'm sure!!" and people cheer and she does that "uhhh huh!" kind of thing. It was really funny. I think that was the only notable event.
This was followed by Landslide. It was hilarious... she's like, "You all know this song..." but wouldn't say what it was. And then she's like... "I need someone to dedicate this to.... on the count of three, somebody give me a name... the whole building shouts a name, and she just laughs and laughs. Then she fingered somebody in the front row to come up to her and give her a name... a good thirty seconds later she had decided to dedicate Landslide to "Jen." lol, what a goofball. The girls sing back up on the chorus... Kind of interesting. Never noticed that before, but then again that's the first I've seen a solo Landslide. On the screen in the background were pictures of Stevie through the ages... We're talking... baby pictures, through probably 91-ish. Street Angel shots were noticeably missing. hehe. Anyways, that was a great scene... "I'm getting older too" has a much more profound effect on the audience, when they're looking at one woman, and photographs of seemingly another. Very cool moment.
Then Edge... The freakin' security cut off the stage rush at like the third row... I didn't have an ice cubes chance in hell of getting up there, so I didn't even try. Oh well. It was a cool version and oh my LORD! The growl HAD to have been a full 20-25 seconds long! I almost passed out, myself!! I was really knocked out by that. Then she put her hair under her coat and worked the stage as she always does. It was funny, I could read her lips saying to somebody... "I can't hear you." hehe, cute Stevie. Then she and her band leave.
When they return, the single greatest performance I've ever seen her give was performed. "Rock and Roll" is Stevie's calling, I swear. She absolutely blew the roof off of the Borgata... and let me tell you, that's a very tall building. lol. I mean, wow! I'm sorry, because words could not express how great she was on this song. She came out in the black pants... a little black jacket type thing and this big black velvet hat, with a huge red feather in it. She was a sight!! She looked and sounded better than I've ever seen her. Then, I noticed on the righthand side... Another back up singer! I couldn't figure out who it was... Mindy? No, this woman had dark hair. Lori? Nope, too... something. Not Lori. lol, I look again in better light... It's Vanessa Carlton, singing with Stevie on Rock and Roll! How cool is that??? I loved it. Song of the night by far.
Stevie left again... Came back out with the "off the shoulder" number and her hair up. She's an absolutely beautiful woman. She belted out that song like there was no tomorrow. Theres something about just the piano and Stevie's voice that's very powerful. The candles on the piano are a nice touch. I've become a big fan of BATB at the end. Originally, not so much, but now... oh yes. It's a great closer for a great evening.
