5 BEING THE BEST

Rated "5" by Katie
I have never had the opportunity to see Fleetwood Mac before, even though they are my favorite band and this concert was everything I had hoped for and thought it was going to be. While I did miss Christine and her songs, the energy that was projected was amazing. It was the best concert I have been to and would highly recommend going to anyone!
I maybe somewhat biased, particularly as I travelled from England to see the concert, but even with my rose-tinted spectacles the whole event was wonderful! I have seen alot of live music in my time, but the one act that I have always regretted not seeing was FM. I saw Stevie at Wembley on her Other Side of the Mirror tour, with not particularly good seats and bad accoustics. I joined the fan club determined to see a concert and with the European leg not a definite, thought this was my last opportunity to see my favourite band (that may still be the case!!) Philadelphia was the easiest venue, allowing for timing and minimal travel, and I wasn't disappointed. As with all FM's albums SYW is a grower, in fact I'd go so far to say the songs seem to compress all the best of their "Rumours" line-ups body of work (and I include Christine because of the tempo) into SYW. Back to Philly! I digress. I got an excellent seat meeting some lovely people. The acoustics at the First Union Centre were very good with little distortion. Undoubtedly Lindsey is the star of the show, with his guitar playing jaw droppingly good. He dropped a few notes on Big Love but in a way that added to the song. As for So Afraid....words fail me. He is a wonderful showman and in my opinion of his ilk unparalleled as a gutarist. John and Mick were there usual quality rhythm section. Stevie took some time to warm up but whilst her range is not what it can be (long tour ahead and all that) she captivated the audience. The supporting cast of musicians and singers complemented the whole show and the play list had a perfect balance of new and old (including new interpretations of old standards). Put all these things into context, as well as the fact that for some band members they are pushing 60 and embarking on a gruelling concert schedule, most artists would balk at and I say they rock. SEE THEM if you can, because they won't, sadly be around forever and they represent a type of artist that may never come around again ( I include The Stones, Eagles etc in that category). I have now got tickets for the English dates(Birmingham, London and Manchester-last night of the tour) including front row London tickets on what will be my wife's birthday.....it can't come soon enough(the concert, not her birthday)! Rated "5" by Mary It was awesome! One thing to that creep behind me in section 114...shut up I'll stand if I want I paid 125 bucks for my ticket.. Rated "2" by "Disappointed" Not sure what concert some of these folks actually saw but I can tell you that first I love Stevie Nicks to death. I've seen her with and without Fleetwood Mac several times and this was by far the worst show I’ve seen by her and them. I want my damn money back!! Christine McVie was absolutely missed!! What the hell was Stevie wearing on her feet anyway? Her energy was very low and at times she seemed very uninterested - she seemed ill? Was she does anyone know? Cause then I’ll feel bad. The set was boring as well - very much the Dance plus the new album. With all the material they have you'd think you'd get a show for god sakes and lord knows we had seen just about enough of the Dance on PBS and MTV over the last few years. They could have spiced it up a little I thought. I heard singing but I clearly did not see lips moving as well. I don't know that I care too much about that - it was just an observation. Anyway - rating a '2' for 2 disappointed for words!! New Album - Say you will - - give my money back:( Rated "5" by Susan First off I want to say that Fleetwood Mac may be getting older & still can rock but I can't really say the same for a lot of these fans. If you were sitting in section 114 down in the 1st 3 rows & wanted to stand & dance & really rock you went to the wrong show because it was not happening at this show (let me rephrase that because a lot of the fans especially on the floor were rocking) but to these fans who just want to sit like stiffs & chair dance Please STAY HOME & listen to the cd or watch "The Dance" on video because it really does ruin the good time for people like myself who by the way paid $250.00 for my awesome seat (that I had to SIT in almost the whole show) because the stiff behind me who paid only $125.00 for her seat was complaining the whole time. I really think arenas need to do the restaurant policy for smoking & non-smoking, sell seats for people who want to have a good time & seats for the boring old hags who want to sit & complain & by the way I had! A
17 year old niece with me who could be into Britney Spears or J-Lo but now loves
Stevie's & thinks she is a Queen & Lindsey a God & could not believe
that FM fans were like this so also. People lets try not to forget we were once
young to it may payoff for you to also stand & dance around because some guy
came up to us after the show & gave us backstage passes for screaming the
loudest & he said that we deserve to have him (whoever you were Thank You so
much that was the coolest thing ever). We did not get to meet the band because we
were not on the guest list but we did at least get backstage.
Rated "3.5" by JC I would just like to say that there were very high points to the Philly show, and some very low points as well. First off, this band would be absolutely nothing without the magic that Lindsey Buckingham brings to the table. His vocals, personality, and guitar work are the backbone, and maybe even legs and skull of the band. Mick Fleetwood is ultra steady, and brings a lot of flair as well. The back-up musicians really didn't stand out much, and that's a great thing. The one who did stand out was the percussionist who really wailed! Low points. Last night, it just seemed that whenever LB would get the entire crowd into the gig, Stevie would then sing lead, with no energy, and being very noticably unsure of her vocal ability. I hate saying this because I love this band, and this was my second time seeing them. When I saw them in East Rutherford in '97, it just seemed much more balanced with Christine McVie's vocals, and I remember Stevie being much more into the show. Now it seems she's just there in presence, and that's about it. She's really not that old though, so I don't understand why people are saying that for her age, she does a great job. Mick Jagger is about 10 years older than her, and blows her away. Anyway, I also think that some of her choices of songs bring the momentum down a bit. Maybe if she would do a couple more faster numbers, like Running Through The Garden, Everybody Finds Out, or Seven Wonders, my opinion would be different. I did enjoy the show very much, but I would not pay the high cost of a ticket to see them again without Chris McVie. It really is hard to rate the show as a whole though. It's much easier categorizing the show:
LB-5
Rated "4" by Rob The sound was muddy on non-acoustic songs and Stevie could barely be heard. She has lost a step and seems to lumber about on stage although on Stand Back she did her trademark spin quite well. Christine was missed to some degree. I had a clear view of the stage in section 113. 4 seats in front of us were empty for the whole show. I would definitely see them again and hopefully the sound will be better.
by TTL Highlights of the show included: Lindsey Buckingham (ranks right up there with some of best I have seen.Playing the guitar, front man,and singer) Mick Fleetwood (ditto...just a steady, steady drummer with loads of energy.) ? name...the second percussionist (real good) song selection (great set list-standouts included: Eyes of the World, Beautiful Child, Silver Springs, Landslide, World Turning) Stevie Nicks (some songs she did were just fantastic) Now for the low points. Stevie Nicks sounded terrible for some songs. No emotion, singing in a lower key then the studio version, almost like she was just going thru the motions. Rhiannon being the low-point for me. It sounded like a real bad, bar-cover band playing it. IT WAS TERRIBLE.(She later redeemed herself about 1/2 or 3/4 into the show and sang powerfully. Set list was great but sometimes there was too much let-down after a strong song. One minute the crowd would be up jamming along side the band....the next...people were going to get something to drink or eat. I thought they could have arranged the set list better. Some parts of the concert were down right boring. A lot of songs you could barely hear the 2 back-up singers (still do not know what their faces looked like...they never appeared on the 2 big video screens). When you did hear them...Christines voice wasn't missed at all. They were pretty good.(I guess that was the sound engineers fault..not theirs.) Would I recommend this tour? Yes I would. The highlights of the show trump the lowlights.
Rated "3.6" by Mike D First of all, Lindsey Buckingham's performance was clearly the highlight of the evening. He has such a great energy and presence onstage, and hasn't lost much in terms of his vocal range, either (although he couldn't hit the high notes during "Come", but I'm nitpicking). And of course, his guitar playing was excellent as always. Particular song highlights included "Second Hand News", "Never Going Back Again", "Eyes of The World" and a fantastic acoustic arrangement of "Big Love". I loved hearing his newer tracks as well, especially "What's the World Coming To", which also had a slightly different arrangement than the record. And of course, his show-stopper "I'm So Afraid" was incredible as usual. Stevie Nicks, however, isn't quite the performer she once was, and that's no secret, I'm sure. I love Stevie, I think she's written and performed some of the best songs we've ever heard, but she has limited vocal range at this point, and that's being kind. It's hard hear her straining to hit the higher notes, especially during "Rhiannon" and "Gypsy". I often wondered why they rarely play "Sara" anymore, but I realize now that's probably for the best, since she probably wouldn't be able to deliver the high notes at the end of the song. Some of her harmonies with Lindsey seemed off key, as well. I will say that her voice did appear to get a little stronger as the evening progressed, and she sounded excellent on "Beautiful Child", one of my favorite FM songs. "Stand Back" sounded great as well, although I don't quite see the need to play one of Stevie's solo tracks, when FM have plenty of great songs to choose from (even without Christine). Overall, a pretty strong perfomance, and great that they played for 2 1/2 hours. I could do without Mick's drum solo, though. I definitely missed Christine a little bit, and I think her presence could've turned what was a very good concert, into a great one. Maybe next time.....?
Rated "5" by Bill Mc The show was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. One thing is certain, Lindsey IS the Mac-Master. No incarnation of FM will ever work without him. I can only imagine what the Tango tour would have been like with him. I felt Stevie's voice was better than the Dance CD. She hit everything crisp and concise and was the consummate hostess. She is slower on her feet but she's "getting older too". Lindsey tore up the stage with energy keeping the crowd mesmerized with his presence. Mick was smiles the whole time and you could clearly see how this keeps him young. John McVie took his silent role in the shadows making himself known from his bass. Christine's absence was neatly patched up but when you looked over to her area, you hoped to see her in the center of her keyboards which, incidentally, are eerily set up as if she might stop by! We actually got backstage passes from a high up guy who admired our enthusiasm and were escorted to the door of the post show party! Unfortunately, the buck stopped there when we weren't on the official list. In closing, I hope Chris gets the energy to go back in the studio to at least cut tracks on the next CD, her songs bring the group to its full distinction. Hoping they return in the Fall for a second leg!
Rated "4" by Tom My dislikes of the evening was the absence of Christine and the horrible sound. We were more on the side of the arena in the mezzanine (Upper Deck) and had no speakers facing us at all. Just immediate sides and the main stack in the front provided coverage. It echoed like crazy for about a good 45 min. They should have just used megaphones to sing in. I couldn't even tell some of the lyrics esp. when Lindsey sang. Bass drum, bass guitar, and guitar were overwhelming. Lindsey was amazing but noticed many of his solos had people getting drinks, food, bathroom, smoke breaks, etc. Once Stevie came back many ran to their seats. To me Stevie doing Stand Back was the highlight of the night. The place rocked people loved her. Mick did his bongo drum solo and was running around the stage like a mad man. Philly seemed to really enjoy "Mac" and I did as well. It is tough hearing Tusk and Don't stop without the Trojan Marching Band like on The Dance DVD but it was wonderful. You can't use a keyboard in place of Christines accordian in Tusk either. The concert was an amazing show but the sound needed much work.
Rated "4" by Erin Let me start off by saying that Fleetwood Mac rocked the show. Lindsey was so incredible. He really shined and took over the show. Stevie also was amazing as always. There's just nothing bad that you can say of her. The woman does no wrong. Even if she does not do all the stuff she used to do. You still got to give her credit at her age to still entertain a crowd the way she does. Now to get to the bad part of the show. Why is it that whenever me and my aunt go to concerts, we always get old geezers who complain and tell us to sit down? I think if people like choose it down and listen to a ROCK band then they might as well just sit home and buy the Dance DVD because its the same thing. I mean come on. It's a ROCK concert. Your supposed to rock out. It is such an insult to the band when you sit down. I mean come on. If you were a band and saw people sitting down looking more dead than people at a cemetary! Wouldn't you be a little disappointed that people didn't find you exciting enough to get up or even make any attempts to look like you were enjoying the performance? Just because you may be old. It doesn't mean you have to act like it. Fleetwood Mac is the perfect example of that. So my advice to people that are like that is. To just STAY HOME!!!!!!!!!!.Sit down on your rocking chair and listen to the live CD. Let the people who appreciate Fleetwood Mac enjoy their performance they way it should be appreciated. Thank you.
Rated "4" by Spence I never realized how well their voices complemented each other until they played Rhiannon. They are not a flashy band, but their music and lyrics transcend and speak to the masses. This is music for the ages. Anybody can play music; this band makes the music sing! Mick had a fantastic drum (Tusk) and congo solo. Lindsey pranced the stage 3 times like (a younger) Keith Richards strumming with both hands and fingers. At times his solo music was very edgy and rough, but he always came back into the fold with a song complementing Stevie. Mick and Lindsey really got into Big Love and World Turning. Of course, Stevie carried Silver Springs and Sara perfectly. Her voice is never overpowering showing softness and gale force power when necessary. They played a couple songs off their new album including Peacekeeper. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip!!
