5 BEING THE BEST
Rated "5" by Kim Roberts
Awesome, absolutely the best!!!! I have been a fan for years and when I heard they were coming I talked to a friend who had front row tickets. Unfortunately, an unforeseen hardship prevented me from buying the tickets. At the last minute I was able to get some but by then they were almost sold out and the best available were behind the stage (upper level) but much to my surprise the dreaded seats ended up being the greatest seats I ever had. We were behind the band (but in box seats) front and center and in the front row over-looking the band. My boyfriend an I were closer than most, and looking right down on them. I screamed the entire night as they rocked the house. Lindsey was absolutely fantastic - truly a one man show by himself. Mick Fleetwood is still an awesome drummer and appeared to be low key - until his solo - he and his "red" shoes came alive and he had the crowd in the palm of his hands. Near the end of the song he began beating his stomach and pounded ou! t the end on acoustic drums that were hid under his shirt.
Then their was Stevie, my idol - my mentor - the core of my soul. Her poetry and songs have gotten me through many tough times and being there was such an honor and delight. Her voice is clear and cleaner than ever before and she definitely still has what it takes, they all do - the crowd was rocking.
It was the best concert I have ever seen. Sacramento was loud and I can’t help but wonder if they have experienced this loyalty, devotion, and appreciation everywhere they’ve played.
And to top the night off - after yelling and dancing and screaming till I was sore, when they came back out for the 1st encore, Stevie stopped and looked straight up at us, our eyes met – she smiled, and gave a slight nod of appreciation (I guess I was loud) and I went week in the knees I could not believe what had happened did – but it did.
Lastly, I want to tell you that I can’t forget the energy between Lindsey and Stevie, to this day. They seem to love one another on a level that surpasses any other. Lindsey can not hide his emotions for her and she cant help but welcome it. Even if you didn't know their history - you'd know there was something special there. I am still in awe.
I kept track of every song and burned a CD in the exact order they played and I have not gotten tired of it yet. I only have one question, where can I get pictures taken at this Sacramento show? Please send information to lalady@fleetwood.net or kims_e@sbcglobal.net.
They rocked – the Mac is Back.

Lindsey was great... Stevie went through the motions.

Fabulous seats at Arco. We felt like the sound wasn't the best -- some familiar melodies were hard to hear beneath the wall of noise -- but mostly it was simply great.
Mick Fleetwood smiled, mugged and was animatedly joyful throughout the 2-1/2 hour nonstop performance. Lindsey Buckingham amazed us with his guitar virtuosity and the unadulterated energy he put into his musicianship and lyrics. John McVie stayed quietly in the background and never spoke. Stevie Nicks vocals were okay but kinda uninspired and she seemed a bit unenergetic. This must have been about the millionth time she's sung Rhiannon I guess that's what you'd expect. There were a couple of sweet moments when through gestures -- Nicks standing behind Buckingham and rubbing his shoulders -- Buckingham embracing Nicks and kissing her forehead -- singing facing each other -- that Stevie and Lindsey demonstrated that their once torrid and tumultuous relationship is well behind them and mellowed into friendship and fondness. I loved the concert -- I got my money's worth and then some. I did miss Christine McVie's vocals and many of her standards were absent from the show.
As far as the venue goes, I wish Arco Arena would get their act together -- there were miserable traffic jams getting into the arena because only one entrance appeared to be open -- I didn't experience those kinds of delays earlier this year at Bon Jovi or at Kings games.

Let me preface by saying that I've never been a huge fan of the Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham edition of Fleetwood Mac. I was one of the small but devoted fans of the Mick Fleetwood/John McVie/Christine McVie/Danny Kirwan/Bob Welch lineup of the early 70's. In fact, the last time I saw this band called Fleetwood Mac was back in 1974 when Christine and Welch fronted the group. When Nicks and Buckingham came along, I lost interest. Although I can acknowledge Nicks songwriting skills (although I never cared much for her voice) and Lindsey's guitar playing abilities, their songs, admittedly well-crafted pop tunes, sounded a little too poppishly commercial for my rock-jaded ears at the time. That's not to say that I've never seen Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham perform before. I did see them perform once way back in 1970 when they were in the Bay Area-based band called Fritz; five years before joining Mac. It was at Fillmore West and they were the opening act for Chicago. Although I don't remember much about the group or it's music (after all they were just another run-of-the-mill opening act), I always remembered that little brown-haired girl on vocals. Whenever Stevie Nicks has, she had it on that Fillmore stage 33 years ago to the degree that I always remembered her. It wasn't until 20 years later that I found out that the little brown-haired girl was none other than Stevie Nicks and that Lindsey was also in the band (I believe he was playing bass at the time). Having said all that, and with the long view of 35 years of concert-going under my belt, here?s my review of last night's concert.
Nicks was in good vocal form from the start and got stronger and more expressive as the set progressed. The rhythm section of McVie and Fleetwood were as they always have been; sturdy, solid support without being overly flashy, just giving each tune exactly what it needed and nothing more (although Mick should lose that vest solo thing?--boring). Lindsey Buckingham was the star! His performance was outstanding, his solos were fiery expressions of a man possessed; notes and chords twisting and turning in a take-no-prisoners display of confidence and aggressiveness. The only other guitarist I've seen perform with the same fiery intensity is Pete Townshend of the Who. And like Townshend is the heart of the Who, Lindsey Buckingham is the heart of Fleetwood Mac. A stellar performance! I won?t go thru the songs as that's already been done to death. Suffice to say, some were performed better than others. However, I think they should drop Don't Stop from the set; it just isn't the same without Christine?s voice. As far as the sound goes, it wasn't the greatest; the highs were harsh, the lows were muddy and the percussion instruments were mixed way too loud; new soundman please! Overall, a pleasant show. Would I go see them again? Sure?, but not for $75.

I thought that the show was awesome! They sounded incredible! My only complaint rests with the fans...Out of a huge crowd, only a handful of us danced! What's up with that? The band feeds off of our energy and I thought that Sacramento could have been much more enthusiastic . Next time I will just have to get lower level tickets :) I was sad when the show was over, but hopefully we will see them again on tour shortly (with Christine?). The Mac is definitely back!

It was Great to see Fleetwood Mac, having been a fan since 8 track tapes. The concert looked great with vivid effects and color. I was not able to hear the lyrics, back up vocalists or secondary instruments. With some bands you only need to HEAR the music. With Fleetwood Mac you should be able to LISTEN to the music. The lyrics, harmony, melody and instruments are wonderful on the albums.
Last nights concert was dreadful. The speakers and amps were over driven. The base and drums Overpowered the vocals, keyboard and remaining instruments Eight of us traveled together paying $125 per seat so a mixer jockey could crank the tunes into distortion. Have him attend a McCartney, Elton John or Billy Joel concert so he can LISTEN to the excellence that this music deserves.

After a late start (why even say its going to start at 8...get an opening act or start on time), they definitely did not disappoint. I even enjoyed most of the new songs. Some of the Nicks/Buckingham "moments" seem to be a little staged, or maybe I am just reading too many of the other shows' reviews (sometimes ignorance is bliss). Overall, worth every penny. As other reviewers have said, they seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves up there, and that energy justs feeds into the crowd to make it that much more enjoyable. My highlight was "Stand Back" towards the end of the show...Stevie just seemed way more fired up than at any other point of the show. Buckingham was impressive and energetic, and Fleetwood and McVie's play was powerful and driving throughout. The other 5+ musicians filled in the sound nicely (Fleetwood 10?) and Christine's absence was hardly noticeable. Check these guys out...awesome concert experience.

I never had the opportunity to see Fleetwood Mac live and I enjoyed every minute of it! They absolutely rocked the house with "Tusk"! They played "Rhiannon" and "Gold Dust Woman" with Stevie's beautiful vocals and it was all just great! If they haven't hit your town yet and you are waiting to see them, you won't be disapointed!

Maybe I'm biased but this is one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Music was good mix of old and new. These guys are outstanding performers and definitely give you your moneys worth. Arco Arena is not the best place to see them, but still a very memorable evening.
